Complaining to the authorities
HK Govt has a website where you can submit complaints for traffic related incidents.
The procedure is easy to follow and takes a few minutes of form filling.
- Go to website
- Complete the form and then wait for their reply. This is often within a few hours but may be longer.
- The dept will review the complaint and then get in touch.
- If the complaint is deemed valid they will give you two options:
- Allow them to sort out the issue on your behalf, in which case they will write to the owner of the vehicle or address the issue themselves
- Allow them to pass on the complaint to the police for investigation, in which case the police will contact you and ask you to make a formal witness statement. This may sound daunting but there are many instances of drivers being convicted for careless and inconsiderate driving etc, even when the evidence is from a single cyclist. Beware that the police may attempt to subtly pressure you into dropping the issue by offering to simply send the driver a warning letter rather than completing an investigation.
